Cold War Radar

Winnipeg

NATO and RCAF navigators were given training on radar at RCAF station Winnipeg.  They flew in the B-25 Mitchell which had a pointed nose and APG33 radar.  Later in the Cold War, they used APG40 radar which had a blunt nose.  The Mitchell’s nose was an orange radome.  Other planes were also used as targets but these planes did not have radar.
